Advanced Practitioners
What is a Nurse Practitioner (NP)?
Nurse Practitioners are advanced practice nurses who provide high-quality healthcare services similar to those of a doctor. They conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests and write prescriptions. NPs diagnose and treat a wide range of health problems such as upper respiratory infections, hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol. Besides clinical care, NPs focus on health promotion, disease prevention, health education and counseling. They help patients make wise health and lifestyle choices.
What is a Physician Assistant (PA)?
Physician Assistants are licensed healthcare professionals who practice medicine with physician supervision in all general practice settings as well all specialty areas. PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventative healthcare, assist in surgery and write prescriptions. A PA’s scope of practice may also include education, research and administrative services.
