LRHS/LRPN offer free prostate screenings
La Porte Regional Health System (LRHS) is offering free prostate cancer screenings on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The screenings are offered at two convenient locations: in La Porte from 8 a.m. to noon and in North Judson from 8 a.m. to noon. A Spanish-speaking assistant will be available at the La Porte location.
Pre-registration is required. Those interested are encouraged to call the location of their choice to schedule an appointment. For the La Porte location, call (219) 326-2073. For the North Judson location, call (574) 896-5533.
The screenings include a PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood test and a rectal exam.
Annual screenings are recommended for: men age 50 and older; men age 40 and older, if African American or Hispanic; and men age 40 and older, if there is a family history of prostate cancer.
The screenings are not intended for men diagnosed with prostate cancer and are not intended to replace an annual physical.
The screenings are made possible through funding provided by the La Porte Hospital Auxiliary. The La Porte Hospital Auxiliary supports La Porte Regional Health System by providing volunteer services and funding philanthropic projects with profits from the Wishing Well Gift Shop and various fundraisers. The Auxiliary funds an annual scholarship program for college students entering a healthcare career as well. |
